Japanese Grammar: How to Ask “Where is ～?” (Noun + はどこですか)

Grammar Explanation: Where is …? (How to ask for a location)

Ex.: すみません、駅えきはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, eki wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the station?

Ex.: 駅えきですか。この道みちをまっすぐ行いって、右みぎへ曲まががったところです。
Rm.: Eki desu ka. Kono michi o massugu itte, migi e magatta tokoro desu.
En.: The station? Go straight along this road, turn right, and it’s right there.

Ex.: すみません、トイレはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, toire wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the restroom?

Ex.: トイレですか。トイレは一いち番ばん奥おくにあります。
Rm.: Toire desu ka. Toire wa ichiban oku ni arimasu.
En.: The restroom? It’s all the way at the back.

Ex.: すみません、ATMはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, e ti emu wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the ATM?

Ex.: ATMですか。あのコンビニの中なかにありますよ。
Rm.: E ti emu desu ka. Ano konbini no naka ni arimasu yo.
En.: The ATM? It’s inside that convenience store over there.

Ex.: すみません、コンビニはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, konbini wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the convenience store?

Ex.: コンビニですか。この通とおりをまっすぐ行いくと、左ひだり側がわにあります。
Rm.: Konbini desu ka. Kono tori o massugu iku to, hidarigawa ni arimasu.
En.: The convenience store? Go straight down this street, and it’ll be on your left.

Ex.: すみません、スーパーはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, supa wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the supermarket?

Ex.: スーパーですか。駅えきの隣となりにあります。
Rm.: Supa desu ka. Eki no tonari ni arimasu.
En.: The supermarket? It’s next to the station.

Ex.: すみません、ABCホテルはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, ABC hoteru wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is ABC Hotel?

Ex.: ABCホテルですか。あのビルの後うしろにあります。
Rm.: ABC hoteru desu ka. Ano tatemono no ushiro ni arimasu.
En.: ABC Hotel? It’s behind that building.

Ex.: すみません、受うけ付つけはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, uketsuke wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the reception desk?

Ex.: 受うけ付つけですか。1いっ階かいにあります。
Rm.: Uketsuke desu ka. Ikkai ni arimasu.
En.: The reception desk? It’s on the first floor.

Ex.: すみません、手て荷に物もつ預あずかり所じょはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, nimotsu azukarijo wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the luggage storage area?

Ex.: 手て荷に物もつ預あずかり所じょですか。駅えきの中なかにあります。
Rm.: Nimotsu azukarijo desu ka. Eki no naka ni arimasu.
En.: The luggage storage area? It’s inside the station.

Ex.: すみません、病びょう院いんはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, byoin wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the hospital?

Ex.: 病びょう院いんですか。あの信しん号ごうを渡わたったところです。
Rm.: Byoin desu ka. Ano shingo o watatta tokoro desu.
En.: The hospital? Cross at that traffic light, and it’s right there.

Ex.: すみません、ドラッグストアはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, doraggu sutoa wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the drugstore?

Ex.: ドラッグストアですか。この道みちを50ｍぐらいいくと左ひだり手てにあります。
Rm.: Doraggu sutoa desu ka. Kono michi o gojuu meetoru gurai iku to hidarite ni arimasu.
En.: The drugstore? Walk about 50 meters down this road, and it’ll be on your left.

Ex.: すみません、レジはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, reji wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the checkout counter?

Ex.: レジですか。あちらにあります。
Rm.: Reji desu ka. Achira ni arimasu.
En.: The checkout counter? It’s right over there.

Ex.: すみません、試し着ちゃく室しつはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, shichakushitsu wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the fitting room?

Ex.: 試し着ちゃく室しつですか。こちらでございます。
Rm.: Shichakushitsu desu ka. Kochira de gozaimasu.
En.: The fitting room? It’s right this way.

Ex.: すみません、タクシー乗のり場ばはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, takushi noriba wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the taxi stand?

Ex.: タクシー乗のり場ばですか。駅えきの出で口ぐちを出でたところです。
Rm.: Takushi noriba desu ka. Eki no deguchi o deta tokoro desu.
En.: The taxi stand? It’s just outside the station exit.

Ex.: すみません、バス停ていはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, basutei wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the bus stop?

Ex.: バス停ていですか。駅えきの東ひがし口ぐちにありますよ。
Rm.: Basutei desu ka. Eki no higashiguchi ni arimasu yo.
En.: The bus stop? It’s at the station’s east exit.

Ex.: すみません、駐ちゅう車しゃ場じょうはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, chushajou wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the parking lot?

Ex.: 駐ちゅう車しゃ場じょうですか。この道みちを右みぎへ曲まがったところにありますよ。
Rm.: Chushajou desu ka. Kono michi o migi e magatta tokoro ni arimasu yo.
En.: The parking lot? Turn right on this road, and it’s right there.

Ex.: すみません、交こう番ばんはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, koban wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the police box?

Ex.: 交こう番ばんですか。駅えき前まえにありますよ。
Rm.: Koban desu ka. Eki no mae ni arimasu.
En.: The police box? It’s in front of the station.

Ex.: すみません、ここはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, koko wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where are we?

Ex.: ここですか。ここは〇〇町ちょうです。

Rm.: Koko desu ka. Koko wa 〇〇-machi desu.
En.: Here? This is 〇〇 Town.

Ex.: すみません、エレベーターはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, erebeta wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the elevator?

Ex.: エレベーターですか。つきあたりにございます。
Rm.: Erebeta desu ka. Tsukiatari ni gozaimasu.
En.: The elevator? It’s at the end of the hallway.

Ex.: すみません、入いり口ぐちはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, iriguchi wa doko desu ka.
En.: Excuse me, where is the entrance?

Ex.: 入いり口ぐちですか。あちらでございます。
Rm.: Iriguchi desu ka. Achira de gozaimasu.
En.: The entrance? It’s over there.

Ex.: すみません、出で口ぐちはどこですか。
Rm.: Sumimasen, deguchi wa doko desu ka.

En.: Excuse me, where is the exit?

Ex.: 出で口ぐちですか。まっすぐ行いったところにあります。

Rm.: Deguchi desu ka. Massugu itta tokoro ni arimasu.

En.: The exit? Go straight ahead, and it’s right there.
