Japanese Grammar: How to Ask “What is the most ～?” (何が一番～ですか？)

Sentence Pattern: Noun + の中で、Question Word + が一番～ですか

Sentence Pattern: Noun + のno中nakaでde、Question Word + がga一ichi番ban～でdeすsuかka

Grammar Explanation: What/Who/Which is the most ～?

Ex.: 家か族ぞくの中なかで、誰だれが一いち番ばん背せが高たかいですか。

Rm.: Kazoku no naka de, dare ga ichiban se ga takai desu ka.

En.: Who is the tallest in your family?

Ex.: お父とうさんが一いち番ばん高たかいです。

Rm.: Otousan ga ichiban takai desu.
En.: Dad is the tallest.

Ex.: お父とうさんです。

Rm.: Otousan desu.
En.: It’s Dad.

Ex.: 哺ほ乳にゅう類るいの中なかで、何なにが一いち番ばん大おおきいですか。

Rm.: Honyuurui no naka de, nani ga ichiban ookii desu ka.
En.: What is the largest mammal?

Ex.: シロナガスクジラが一いち番ばん大きいです。

Rm.: Shironagasukujira ga ichiban ookii desu.
En.: The blue whale is the largest.
